Description
The Conference Director is an integral part of the Headlands Institute management team and leads the sales, marketing, and implementation of the conference program which includes meetings, retreats and special events. The Conference Director also serves as a key coordinator of additional programmatic activity including our summer programs, outreach efforts, fundraising activities, and internal events. The Conference Director is responsible for communication between departments and works closely with all members of the management team.
Duties of the Job:
Business, Marketing and Fiscal Management:
" Responsible for the extensive marketing, promotion, and growth of the Headlands Institute conference business (current revenue exceeds $700,000 annually).
" Develop annual conference budget, administer approved budget, and take appropriate actions to correct variances.
" Maintain sound financial and program record systems including tracking of contracts and insurance documents.
" Develop marketing materials, advertising plan, business plan, and any related materials for conference program.
Program Management:
" Work closely with the Executive Director and management team in determining policies and priorities.
" Coordinate and participate in board meetings, special events, and related activities.
" Supervise logistical details for all conference bookings, special events, and internal events.
" Work with each group event leader to customize meetings/retreats to meet customer needs and ensure the highest quality programs.
Personnel Management:
" Hire, supervise and train Assistant Conference Director and Conference Host staff. " Prepare weekly schedules and any campus activities involving Conference staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
" Work with all programs to develop better internal and external information systems.
" Help maintain relations with National Park Service and Park Partners.
" Participate in risk management and public relations as it relates to Conference program.
Requirements: The ideal candidate can demonstrate the following:
" Bachelors degree in a related field;
" Extensive business development, marketing, management skills and broad financial management experience (minimum of six years business and marketing skills).
" Excellent supervisory and communications skills; a team player.
" Solid organizational skills.
" Solid computer experience including expertise with: MS Word, MS Excel, and Filemaker Pro.
Compensation: $42,000 - $49,000 and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental benefits, generous vacation and sick day policy, flexible benefit plan, employer matched retirement program, and the opportunity to work in beautiful national parks.
