Description of Organization

The Green Communities Association (GCA) seeks an
energetic, resourceful, innovative and creative individual
who will compliment its existing team. This is an entry-
level position in a national association providing services
to community-based environmental groups. For more
information about the GCA visit http://www.gca.ca.

The responsibilities and duties of this position will grow
to meet the specific skills and interests of the successful
intern.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

  • Conduct research as required by Green Communities
    to include monitoring and evaluating GCA projects, in
    particular the Active & Safe Routes to School program
    in Ontario.
  • Work with the Active & Safe Routes to School Program
    Manager to coordinate a pilot project involving two high
    schools in Markham and Peterborough.
  • Assist the Active & Safe Routes to School Program
    Manager for the Ontario Active & Safe Routes to School
    program, including International Walk to School Day.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Work or volunteer experience in a non-profit setting
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, decision-making and
    an excellent team player
  • Demonstrated ability to organize community-wide
    outreach and education programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation,
    interpersonal, computer literacy (spreadsheet and word
    processing)
  • Post secondary education in a relevant field (environment,
    ecology, biology, administration, etc.)
  • General understanding and commitment to environment
    and social change resulting in environmental benefits
  • Internet research skills
  • Artistic abilities and knowledge of electronic graphics
    packages would be a plus
  • Effective time management skills

ELIGIBILITY

Eligible candidates must have an established Employment
Insurance benefit claim, OR one that has ended within the
last 3 years, OR have established a maternity or parental
claim within the past 5 years, after which they remained
out of the labour market to care for the child and are now
seeking to re-enter the labour force.
