Community Engagement Intern

Position Overview

The Baltimore Office of Sustainability is developing a comprehensive Sustainability Plan that will address energy, air, water, waste, green infrastructure, built environment, and transportation through the lenses of public health, social equity, economic growth, and environmental justice.  Public outreach and engagement is critical to the ongoing success of this Plan.  The Sustainability Outreach Intern will play a key role by helping to facilitate this engagement with a wide range of community stakeholders.

General Responsibilities

• Communicate with interested citizens, businesses, and media outlets
• Work with other City outreach offices including, but not limited to the Mayor's Office Neighborhoods, Mayor's Office of Faith-Based Organizations, and the Cleaner Greener Initiative
• Author press releases and outreach materials
• Represent the Office of Sustainability at public events
• Coordinate with local event staff
• Help prepare for and conduct both small and large public meetings

Qualifications

• Commitment of at least 15/hours a week
• Working knowledge and interest in sustainability and the City of Baltimore
• Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders
• Well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player
• Experience with community outreach in urban environments
• Desire to make Baltimore a national leader in sustainability
