The Office of Sustainability & Environment's (OSE) success depends in large part on its ability to communicate clearly and effectively to both internal and external audiences -- that is, to inform and inspire action by City departments as well as residents, households, businesses and other institutions.

Position Overview:
The Communications/Public Information Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to accomplish that goal, with a primary focus on the Mayor's Climate Protection Initiative. Other responsibilities include:
- Produce communications materials such as brochures and fact sheets;
- Write web and newsletter content, and news releases;
- Organize media events;
- Help maintain OSE's web site;
- Represent OSE at monthly meetings of Citywide public information officers;
- Work with public information specialists in other City departments and the Mayor's Office to synchronize environmental communications.
This position reports to the Director of the Office of Sustainability & Environment, and coordinate closely with both OSE project managers and the Mayor's communications staff.
Required Qualifications:
- The equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or related field.
- Four years of professional experience in strategic communications, public/media relations, marketing or related field.
- Experience communicating to internal and external audiences as an authoritative representative of elected officials or department heads on significant issues related to priority programs, for the purpose of garnering support, shaping opinions, advocating controversial positions, and achieving important objectives.
- Experience advising senior management on strategic communications policy options.
- Excellent speaking and writing skills. Desktop publishing and web site management skills.
- Proven ability in teamwork, achieving results, and effectively communicating technical information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated track record of working in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and collaboration.
