Founded in 1981, The Land Conservancy of New Jersey is dedicated to preserving and permanently protecting open space land and water resources in northern New Jersey. The Land Conservancy has also helped towns receive more than $229 million in grants to purchase and protect land throughout the state.

Our programs are made possible through the generous support of our members, corporate partners, and local foundations. 88 cents of every dollar raised by The Land Conservancy directly supports our programs. In 2009, The Land Conservancy of New Jersey became the first land trust in the state to receive accreditation from The Land Trust Accreditation Commission. Position Overview  

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey is accepting resumes for a Communications Specialist. We're seeking a creative individual with exceptional writing skills. The position will be based in our Montville office which is located within a municipal park.

Under the direction of the Development Director, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of communications activities, including writing, editing, outreach, and online engagement.

An integral part of this position is producing all content for print and digital media. The ideal candidate will have superior writing skills and design aesthetics, a passion for land conservation, and a commitment to expanding the organization's reach throughout the state.

Note: This full-time position is open immediately.

Responsibilities  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the Development Director, management team and program staff to write and produce all print and digital communications, marketing and fundraising materials 
  • Create and publish all marketing materials while upholding and improving The Land Conservancy's brand
  • Write and distribute press releases to local, state and national media 
  • Write and distribute electronic and print newsletters to The Land Conservancy's constituents 
  • Create unique and visually appealing infographics 
  • In conjunction with the Development Director, create and maintain an annual communications plan, calendar, and style guide. Track trends and provide recommendations to the Development Director as needed 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain The Land Conservancy's website and social media pages
  • Create, implement, and measure social media for The Land Conservancy's online community
  • Refine and implement social media strategy. Build advocates and members among enrolled online membership
  • Maintain and publish original and guest content on The Land Conservancy's blog
  • Create and post content for The Land Conservancy's YouTube Channel 
  • Oversee and coordinate with outside vendors as needed 

Qualifications  

Required Qualifications: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled at graphic design 
  • Experience in Adobe Suite of programs
  • A passion for land preservation and stewardship, and an understanding of a land trust's essential role in the larger community 
  • 3-5 years of communications experience. Marketing, public relations, graphic design, social media marketing and online community development experience helpful 
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field


Additional Preferred Skills:
 

  • Experience with major social media platforms, websites
  • Website development, design and content editing software, including Joomla and/or Word Press 
  • Proven success in marketing, public relations and social media campaign development, execution, and measurement
  • Strong organizational skills and a disciplined approach to work and problem solving with the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment under firm deadlines 
  • Video production skills 
  • Advanced college degree
