Summary Description:

The Communications Specialist gathers, organizes, and disseminates information on land trusts and related subjects, with a strong emphasis on communications management. The information is delivered through a variety of media including different publications, eNewsletters, and LTA's complete Web presence: the public Web site, the members-only extranet (LTAnet) and the internal staff Web site (my LTA). Priority clients include LTA staff in the DC and field-based offices, and the staff and volunteers of LTA member land trusts. Other Information Services clients include conservation professionals and organizations involved in land conservation, and the general public.

Specific Responsibilities:

* Coordinate a communications strategy for member land trusts, including an LTA eNewsletter
* Create, collect, organize and maintain information resources on LTAnet (extranet), www.LTA.org (Internet site) and myLTA (intranet)
* Develop Web content and curriculum to support Land Trust Standards and Practices and LTA's credentialing initiatives
* Proactively promote LTA content and services internally and externally
* Respond to information requests from priority clients
* Implement and maintain systems to provide information for other requesters
* Design, implement, and report on specialized surveys about and for the land trust community
* Assist with the organization and internal dissemination of LTA's information resources to promote knowledge management within the organization
* Assist with the LTA publications updating, production and marketing process.
* Manage, track, and produce periodic reports for printed publication inventories
* Process book order received by fax or mail and send to Administration for fulfillment
* Provide administrative support to the Information Services program as needed
* Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in natural resources, conservation; library/information science; communications or related field and two years work experience or equivalent
* Web writing and maintenance or electronic publication experience
* Other editing or writing knowledge, skill or ability
* Commitment to land conservation
* Strong research and writing skills
* Attention to detail
* Demonstrated initiative, ability to work independently and with others, and with minimal daily supervision
* Friendly, service-oriented and professional with a courteous phone manner
* Knowledge of the Internet and familiarity with a range of software, including MS Word and Excel. Facility with Adobe Acrobat and Illustrator, or Macromedia Dream Weaver or Contribute is also desirable.
