Description
Rachel's Network, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for women environmental funders, based in Washington, D.C., is hiring a communications manager to support its efforts to promote women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth. The communications manager will help advance the Network's mission through internal and external publications, across print and online platforms, and via member engagement programs.
Responsibilities:
Communications/ Editorial (50%):
- Serve as lead writer and editorial manager, ensuring consistent application of house style and organizational messaging in all internal and external communications.
- Produce annual Membership Directory and Annual Report, including design, editing, and coordination of printing processes.
- Produce and disseminate regular electronic publications, including monthly e-newsletter and annual Member Survey Report.
- Maintain online platforms, including curating and posting content to members-only Online Community and public Rachel's Network website.
- Write, contribute to, and/or edit speeches, presentations, and external messaging for Rachel's Network leadership.
Membership Development & Cultivation (25%):
- Conduct annual member survey, an electronic poll of members' individual work and Network experiences over the prior year.
- Coordinate outreach to Environmental Leadership Liaisons and Circle of Advisors, 2 affiliated groups of women leaders serving in an advisory role.
- Provide support on new member orientation, including design and distribution of welcome materials and personalized enrollment of members in Network communications.
Educational & Leadership Programs (20%):
- Compile and disseminate members-only communications, including weekly news listserv and bimonthly events listing.
- Coordinate résumé service, which partners with members to develop compelling written catalogues of their accomplishments.
- Staff one Learning Circle, a member-led affinity group dedicated to studying an issue of shared interest.
General Administration (5%):
- Work with staff to coordinate board meetings and materials.
- Perform general administrative support, and share light office duties with fellow staff.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or other applicable field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 4 years of full-time professional experience focused on writing, editing, and design, ideally in a nonprofit setting, with demonstrated success in communicating with a major donor audience.
- Exceptional demonstrated written and oral communication skills, supported by a creative eye for graphic design. (Experience designing publications and proficiency with Adobe InDesign a plus.)
- Outstanding time management skills and an ability to manage projects from beginning to end on deadline, including coordinating deliverables from fellow staff, members, vendors, etc.
- Well-organized, extremely accurate, and detail-oriented, with impeccable standards.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively as team member in a small, but busy office atmosphere with initiative, self-motivation, and flexibility.
- Poised, diplomatic, and capable of building an easy rapport with an outspoken membership base of high-net-worth funders who share a commitment to environmental philanthropy but encompass a broad range of interests and perspectives.
- A sense of humor and enthusiasm for and/or interest in learning more about nonprofit, environmental, philanthropic, and women's leadership issues.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; familiarity with database software a plus, particularly Salesforce.
