Position Overview:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of a new communications and marketing strategy for the organization, including program?level communications and marketing plans. This will include
writing, editing and distribution of our quarterly newsletter as well as support to our programs for their frequent communications to partners and clients. The Communications Manager will proactively identify opportunities to raise the profile of The Natural Step Canada and market our programs to our target markets.
The Communications Manager will work closely and collaboratively with The Natural Step's program managers to ensure an integrated approach to outreach and marketing that enhances program deliverables. He/she will be responsible for The Natural Step brand, key messages, and communicating the outcomes of our work. As such she/he will support the efforts of the fundraising team by clearly documenting and communicating our stories, program?level outputs and outcomes.
The Communications Manager will manage a technical intern in supporting The Natural Step's graphic design and technological needs (especially around our website).
Responsibilities:
- Developing a communications and marketing strategy
- Managing communications budget and assisting with fundraising and revenue?generation for communications?related projects
- Maintaining our website, developing our brand and refining our messages
- Supervising website/graphics intern and summer writing interns
- Program?level communications and marketing support
o Identifying speaking engagements and strategic conferences to attend
o Creating information packages
o Marketing our sustainability courses
o Business development support for advisory team
o Supporting communications to funders and sponsors
- Developing an ambassadors package for TNS board members and close supporters
- Social media strategy and implementation (blogging, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Writing and distributing quarterly newsletter
- Writing and producing an Annual Report
- Illuminating our success stories by producing case studies, profiles, leadership stories, etc.
- Developing and executing a media strategy
- Delivering speeches and presentations on The Natural Step (some travel may be required).
Qualifications:
Education:
- A post?secondary degree in communications, marketing, journalism or associated field.
Experience:
- 2?5 years work experience in a communications?related position
- Experience communicating sustainability an asset
- Non?profit experience is an asset
Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills
- Proficient in web 2.0 technologies
- Understanding of sustainability
- Able to work independently and be accountable for results
- Impeccable proofreading, attention to detail
- Graphic sense - able to make documents look professional
- Highly motivated and effective team player
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects
Compensation: Compensation is competitive and commensurate with skill, knowledge and experience level and the constraints of a non?profit organization. The salary range for this position is $42,000?$55,000.
