Communications Manager

We need a communications director who can amplify our brand story.

We are a natural oral care company founded on natural, environmental and socially responsible values. Our products have national distribution in the exploding oral care category. We are looking for an experienced communications manager who can strategize and implement a brand communications action plan. 

We are seeking a communications manager with experience promoting packaged consumer products. Are you accustomed to having your hands on the wheel? Good-- this position requires driving, not riding. We have ambitious sales goals that need both vision and absolute attention to detail.

You will carry a consistent brand image across a range of communication products. You will roll up your sleeves and partner with our public relations agency, giving direction and supervising every tactical element. You will work with our sales force to create the "nuts and bolts" marketing communications products they need (catalog sheets, sales materials, etc). You will manage our web presence, keeping it fresh on a weekly basis and looking for opportunities to reach consumers and professional stakeholders.

You will need the ability to work with technical information (research studies, clinical reports) and translate those into compelling consumer messages and stories. Do you have direct-to-consumer marketing experience? As a small brand with a limited budget, we need guerilla marketing, sampling and viral marketing ideas. Tell us what is in your arsenal.

Role and Responsibilities: 

Supervise PR agency 

* Develop and approve press strategies and tactics 
* Expand press contacts - print, radio and e-news 
* Supervise briefings, media events, speaking engagements 
* Develop internal guidelines, protocols
* Spokesperson as requested 
* Supervise and approve budget 

Manage web site 

* Make weekly changes with administrative tools software
* Direct new content through web development agency.
* Prepare monthly web trends summary for executives and investors 
* Supervise and approve budget 

Develop Marketing Materials 

* Translate sales needs into appropriate vehicle
* Develop scope of work, budget and schedule
* Work with designers to create sales materials 
* Secure internal approvals
* Oversee print production to timely completion 

Internal/External Communications 

* Write e-newsletter 
* Write wide variety of reports for executives, board and investors
* Create monthly reports and analyses 

Supervision 

This position currently has no direct reports. Supervision will consist of management of agency resources, free-lancers, project assignments for administrative staff and creation of intern or co-op program to expand communication resources. 

Ideal candidate 

Bachelors degree required, graduate degree in communications a plus. 8-10 years experience in consumer product communications and marketing. Superb writing skills, across a variety of styles and media (diverse writing samples will be requested). PR agency experience (account supervisor or above) or direct supervision of an agency from the corporate side. Established press contacts in consumer and trade publications highly desirable. Demonstrated analytical skills Able to set priorities in high stress environment. Hands-on, energetic and persistent with great follow-through.
