ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability USA, a membership association of local governments focused on climate protection and sustainability, seeks a dynamic and talented Communications Intern to be based in our Boston, MA, or Oakland, CA, offices.
The mission of ICLEI is to build, serve, and drive a movement of local governments to advance deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and achieve tangible improvements in local sustainability. Since its inception in 1990, ICLEI has grown to include over 1,000 local government members around the world, more than 550 of which are in the United States. ICLEI staff work closely with these local governments, providing technical expertise, training, software and other tools and critical networking opportunities to help them achieve their climate protection and sustainability goals. Position Overview:
The Communications Team is looking for a motivated individual hungry to learn about website content management, e-mail newsletters, media outreach, social media strategies, and blogging. As the organization's staff and membership grow and online technologies advance rapidly, we need communications help across these web-based platforms to seize strategic opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor news coverage of ICLEI, local governments and climate change.
- Identify media and outreach opportunities for ICLEI based on news coverage and trends.
- Post news stories daily to ICLEI's website, as well as events
- Perform updates and edits to website pages.
- Research and write "success stories" on local governments' climate, energy and sustainability actions.
- Assist in the development of a new media strategy.
- Write and post blog entries and promote our new Local Action Blog.
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal, phone, written communication, and public presentation skills.
- An interest in and/or knowledge of local governments, climate, energy and/or sustainability or other related fields.
- Experience with website writing, graphic design, new media and/or content management a plus.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship to be used for experience or college credit only.
