Description

Global Footprint Network is seeking a communications intern to assist with a range of communications projects. Recent graduates with a degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field are encouraged to apply. Advanced undergraduate students are also encouraged to apply.

Depending on skills and interests, intern projects may include:

1. Maintaining and expanding the media library.
2. Building network partnerships and supporting outreach programs.
3. Assisting with website maintenance, monthly newsletters, press releases and donor updates.
4. Helping to maintain donor relationships.
5. Writing reports and project summaries.
6. Planning special events and office parties.
7. Assisting with the maintenance of a grants calendar and supporting the writing and submission of grant reports.
8. Supporting the planning and coordinating of direct mail and annual appeal campaigns.

Interns will work closely with all staff, including experienced business consultants and Dr. Mathis Wackernagel, co-creator of the Ecological Footprint.

Successful applicants will be motivated, responsible, and self-starters, able to work with minimum direction. Applicants should be interested in sustainability, global resource issues, and fundraising. We are especially interested in applicants with backgrounds or experience in: ecology, environmental science, earth systems, urban planning, resource management, graphic design, and development.

Key skills required for all projects include excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, computer skills, and the ability to be an enthusiastic team player while able to work well independently. Strong communication abilities and a good grasp of environmental issues are essential. For website related projects, knowledge of HTML or Dreamweaver are required in order to assist with website development and maintenance.

All interns will also be asked to support the administrative functions of the organization. This may include, yet not be limited to: arranging and supporting meetings, assisting with correspondence, updating the contact database, and overseeing production and mailing of materials.

Individuals with a commitment to Global Footprint Network's mission who feel they can make a positive contribution by bringing a different combination of skills are also encouraged to apply.

Time and Compensation:

Internships are available throughout the year. We prefer full time interns, though a part-time arrangement may be possible. There is a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week for three months. Hours are flexible. Gourmet healthy lunches are provided daily. We are willing to work with a university to arrange academic credit. At this time all internships are unpaid, volunteer positions.
