Description

The DC Project's anchor program, WeatherizeDC, is a dynamic community engagement initiative with frequent gatherings and events in neighborhoods across the city; staff and fellows work directly with neighborhood leaders to develop innovative ideas to grow support.

Position Overview:

Responsible for assisting the organization in spotlighting and publicizing the movement underfoot, the fellow's schedule will be structured so as to accommodate the need to cover these events.

The Communications fellow will become familiar with critical systems, including the organization's database of supporters and community members (CRM), as well as the website platform (CMS). The fellow may have the opportunity to analyze the systems & utility, collect best practices, and recommend strategies for how The DC Project can use these systems to further programmatic goals.

Responsibilities:

In addition to performing other duties, the fellow will:

  • Plan and implement improvements to the website to drive more supporters to the site and move them to action
  • Draft clear, compelling content for communications material both online and offline
  • Develop and implement creative strategies to deliver key messages through Twitter and Facebook, attract new supporters online, and forge relationships with colleague organizations

Approximately a quarter of the Communications fellow time will be devoted to attending local Field events in the community to write insightful and engaging blog posts, tweets and Facebook posts. The blog posts will be published on the website.

Additionally, the fellow will be relied on to take high-quality photos at Field events (a camera will be provided) to visually communicate the organization's progress. Most of the events will take place in the evenings during the week and on the weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate students studying communications, marketing, or English are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • The abilities to design a project with clear, realistic goals and to self-monitor progress toward reaching those objectives are highly desired.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills are crucial to excelling in the fellowship.
  • Individuals who are receptive to close-collaboration in a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously will be assets to the organization.
  • Ideal candidates are dedicated individuals who seek to grow as professionals and develop supportive relationships with colleagues.
