~ Clean Ocean Action (COA) is a successful non-profit regional coalition working to protect the marine waters of the NJ/NY coast. ~

COA is a leading national and regional voice working to protect waterways using science, law, research, education & citizen action.

COA's mission is to improve the degraded water quality of the marine waters off the New Jersey/New York coast. COA identifies sources of pollution and mounts an attack on each source by using research, public education, and citizen action to convince our public officials to enact and enforce measures which will clean up and protect our ocean.  

Position Overview

The Communications and Outreach Coordinator is creative and hard-working, possesses strong project management skills, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. The Communications and Outreach Coordinator contributes to COA's general approach, content, communication, and graphic design to increase visibility of the organization, including through collaboration with the coalition.

This position requires evening and weekend work throughout the year. Travel throughout New Jersey and New York is required. The office is based in Sandy Hook, Gateway National Park, northern Monmouth County, NJ.

Responsibilities 

  • Development and implementation of the Communications Plan, including printed materials, social media and e-advocacy activities, press releases and opinion columns, and other aspects of outreach
  • Maintenance and enhancement of the website, and participation in the website Redesign Team
  • Coalition communications
  • Coordination of the Volunteer Program
  • Coordinate a strategic outreach program
  • Production of the monthly newsletter and the Annual Report
  • Strengthen COA media visibility 

Qualifications and Qualities 

  • College degree required
  • Proven IT and content management experience, including WordPress
  • Excellent MS Office skills in a PC environment
  • Design experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Illustrator
  • Team player with desire to be part of grassroots initiatives
  • Creative thinker with skill and experience in social media, writing and editing, and project management
  • Result-oriented, organized, collaborative, professional, resourceful, flexible, efficient, friendly, outgoing, and highly responsible
  • Environmentally-focused with a desire to protect and improve coastal waters
  • Familiar with COA programs and issues 

Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Benefits: Health and dental insurance coverage are offered on a cost-sharing basis, paid holidays and PDO, employer paid professional workshops and trainings.
