Description

The Center for the Next Generation, a nonprofit that supports programs and policies that benefit the next generation of young Americans, turned one this January. The Center uses targeted communications to drive the development of an advanced energy economy and to build support for America's children and families.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will be fully knowledgeable, conversant and up-to-speed in the following areas of strategic communications:

  • Media Relations
  • Public Relations
  • Marketing
  • Social Media
  • Advertising

In addition, the successful candidate will be:

  • an accomplished and articulate public speaker, comfortable with media interviews, speeches and everything in between
  • an excellent writer
  • a strong and supportive manager
  • an ability to mentor and encourage young people
  • fun, with a desire to work in an atmosphere that values teamwork and camaraderie

You will also have working knowledge of clean energy, children and family issues (like education and health policy), as well as politics (both national and California).

In other words, we want it all.

This position will report to the president of The Center for the Next Generation, Matt James, and will be a core part of the senior staff of the Center.   While this is a role that requires highly sophisticated strategy skills, it is also a "roll up your sleeves" job, one that will require the successful applicant to write extensively, work with the news media, pitch ideas and stories - in other words, do it all.  Some travel is also required.

Qualifications:

Should You Apply?

  • If you are a leader in nonprofit communication and have a proven track record of success, you should apply.
  • If you are a seasoned communications specialist who is looking to transition out of the business world into something more meaningful, you should apply.
  • If you have been working in politics or on campaigns and are ready to take your skills to the nonprofit sector, you should apply.
  • If you are a rising star who needs a chance to show what you can do, you should apply.

Compensation: What can we offer in return?

  • A competitive nonprofit salary and benefits.
  • Great colleagues and great issues to work on (clean energy, children and family issues, kids environmental health, youth social mobility).
  • Exposure to leaders in policy, business, politics, the nonprofit sector, media and more.
  • Constant opportunities to be creative and see your ideas acted upon.
