Position Overview:
The selected candidate will work closely with other Clean Energy Coalition staff under the guidance of the Structures Division Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Perform site visits to commercial buildings throughout Michigan that have installed energy-efficiency upgrades to validate energy savings achieved.
- Conduct level I, II, and III energy audits per ASHRAE standards and whole-building energy modeling of multiple facilities including commercial, retail, medical, and multi-family facilities.
- Audit and survey building systems, collect data, develop energy baseline, identify possible energy conservation projects, and develop written reports.
- Assess the installation quality of commercial building systems including (but not limited to): HVAC equipment, HVAC controls, refrigeration, building automation systems, waste heat recovery, water heating equipment, building envelope construction techniques, insulation, fenestration, daylighting, lighting systems, lighting controls, compressed air, process loads, motors, fans, pumps, appliances, passive solar, photovoltaic systems, energy storage systems, fire safety systems, plumbing, as well as standard building materials.
- High-level of customer interaction. Must interact professionally with a wide variety of individuals including building owners, tenants, maintenance and operations staff, contractors, and program management staff.
- Act as a spokesperson for the Clean Energy Coalition.
- Job responsibilities may include requirements to attend meetings and events during evenings/weekends.
- Attend community forums, meetings, and events, and make both individual and public presentations about Clean Energy Coalition's mission and services, as necessary.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned and collaborate with other staff as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, facilities management, building sciences or related field, or relevant work experience.
- Experience in the energy efficiency/renewable energy fields and working knowledge of engineering and construction practices in building retrofit/renovation as well as business systems and practices.
- Ability to analyze field data, construction documents, and mechanical/technical documentation.
- Ability to travel to site visits across Michigan and work remotely.
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs, work near high voltage and/or electric equipment, and work in changing temperature conditions.
- Knowledge of Michigan mechanical and electrical codes. Understanding of federal, state, and utility incentives.
- 2-5 years related experience.
- Exceptional customer service and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage clients and schedules.
- Ability to spend a majority of workweek in the field.
- Must be well organized with demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
- Self-starter, enthusiastic, innovative, and capable of meeting challenges and deadlines.
- Team player with troubleshooting and exceptional multitasking skills.
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency using basic Microsoft and/or similar software products, such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, web, and database applications, and capacity to work in Mac OS environment.
- Proven commitment to energy and environmental issues.
- Valid driver's license.
- Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in construction management, engineering, architecture, facilities management or related fields preferred, or equivalent work experience in the above-mentioned areas.
- Demonstrated experience assessing commercial buildings and guiding owners through the process of reducing energy use.
- Mechanical or electrical license.
- Certified Energy Manager or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Understanding of Michigan energy market, including grant programs, stakeholders, financing/incentive mechanisms, installers/contractors, and service providers.
