~ Camp Jekyll offers education and summer camp programs through Georgia 4-H, and the oceanfront campus is also available to youth groups and camps for private rentals. From environmental education programs to soccer camps and band camps, the new 15-acre campus was designed to be kid-friendly and can accommodate groups of varying size and ages. ~

Occupying the same site of the original Jekyll Island 4-H Center, Camp Jekyll is owned by the Jekyll Island Authority and is operated by Georgia 4-H. Camp Jekyll continues a rich tradition of teaching youth and helping them explore the beauty of Jekyll Island.

Position Overview

Would you enjoy teaching engaging hands-on lessons in an outdoor setting while living on one of Georgia's beautiful barrier islands? If so, a position as an Environmental Educator at Camp Jekyll is the job for you!

Note: This is as seasonal position (August 26, 2019 to May 22, 2020) as an environmental educator at Camp Jekyll located on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 students through multidisciplinary daytime and evening classes in an outdoor setting.
  • Class subjects offered include life and earth science, coastal ecology, and marine science.
  • Other responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching resources, facilities and grounds, and general operation of facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Natural Science, Environmental Education, Biology, Outdoor Education, or related fields preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain) are required.

Compensation: Benefits include compensation of $10/hour (variable, but approximately 40 hours per week), a fully furnished private bedroom with a shared kitchen and living room for $20/week, meals in the dining hall for $2.50/meal, limited health insurance, and intensive training in environmental education and barrier island ecology.
