Position Overview:
The position of Co-products Merchandiser is responsible for monitoring supply and demand of feed markets and selling co-products. The office environment, at times, will be hectic and fast-paced as market information is shared verbally among the merchandisers.
Responsibilities:
- Initiate and develop direct relationships with consumptive end users in order to sell co-products and maximize netback valuation.
- Use phone, email or other means of daily contact to discuss daily price moves with consumptive end users.
- Use export information and export selling values to determine parity pricing for the local co-product feed pricing.
- Forge direct relationships key merchandisers and call them daily with offers seeking bids for product.
- Know the consumptive weekly, monthly, and yearly demand of feed for each feed mill within the responsibility of the merchandiser.
- Negotiate truck freight rates and work with the grain team to determine opportunities for back hauls.
- Know relative drawing arcs of feed and the truck freight associated with moves from Hopewell to each destination.
- With direction of the manager, coordinate trading positions, inventories and forward positions to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
- Make sales of co-products to consumptive end users and follow each transaction through the value chain until the sales trade is executed and the contract obligations are fulfilled.
- Coordinate logistics including entering all contracts into the inventory management system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in agriculture, business or business related from an accredited college or university
- 2 years of experience in DDGS or other feed commodities trading
- Interest in commodity markets and trading
- Demonstrated analytical skill set
- Excellent organizational skills, including accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently to complete tasks and projects
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task and assume responsibility
- Utilize discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication
- Professional and effective interaction with all internal and external constituencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
