Description

Our distinctive approach to environmental protection emphasizes a focus on scientific and economic disciplines and on the use of market mechanisms where applicable to reach well-crafted, durable solutions. The organization builds teams of scientists, lawyers, and economists to investigate the scientific causes of environmental problems as well as the market forces and government policies that encourage and subsidize patterns of environmental damage. In the full range of environmental arenas (air, water, climate, soil, toxins, and wildlife), Environmental Defense seeks practical solutions, founded on science, that policy makers and industry can be urged to incorporate into practice, law, or regulation.

The Policy Analyst, based in Sacramento, CA, will be responsible for developing and advancing Environmental Defense's positions related to AB 32, advancing other climate change-related policy positions, and building relationships with key policy makers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

* Design and advance policy solutions to support AB 32 implementation and other climate policy positions, in conjunction with the California Legislative Director and the campaign's other experts.

* Represent Environmental Defense in regulatory and legislative proceedings related to AB 32 implementation and other climate policy issues.
* Assist in the preparation of communications materials for media, policy-makers, potential donors and various stakeholders to build support and understanding for our positions.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be able to work as a core part of the Environmental Defense climate team in Sacramento to help achieve Environmental Defense's goals for successful implementation of AB 32.

Other qualifications include, but are not limited to:
