Valence Energy, in collaboration with a large, enterprise firm and other partners will respond to a RFP for a project that involves Planning, Directing, Managing and Implementing energy efficiency upgrades for commercial buildings in the State of California. The value of the project which involves retrofitting/upgrading between 200 and 400 small/medium retail outlets, is estimated to be between $5 and $7 million, and has an expected duration between one and two years.

Position Overview: 

In support of this RFP, Valence Energy is looking for a client-facing Project Manager with a knowledge in energy to lead the program. The successful candidate should have minimum 5 yr project management experience with excellent interpersonal skills and working knowledge of a commonly used project management tool (MS Project or Primavera).

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the planning, work assignments, design, procurement, management, and regulatory/permitting activities for small but multiple implementation projects.
  2. Interface with team members, operating personnel, management, internal and external clients, local, county, state, and federal agencies.
  3. Front-person on projects to clients - supply and manage schedules, customer expectations, and serve as point of contact on a variety of projects in the program.
  4. Manage project schedules within a specific program, including leading project teams, managing the program process throughout the execution phase and leading continuous improvements.
  5. Communicate project status to all levels of the organization. Manage project risks and make appropriate recommendations.
  6. Manage the client brand throughout the process.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelors Degree, preferably in Engineering. Typically possesses 5 years of project engineering and/or construction management experience.

Demonstrated experience managing projects in the electrical retrofits & sub-metering. Demonstrated experience managing and implementing small to medium projects, including identifying, maintaining, and/or adjusting the cost, scope, and resources, managing vendors, and overseeing the formal planning, tracking, and reporting of project performance, as well as some experience managing cross-functional teams. Demonstrated experience consulting with clients, including independently identifying client needs, developing action plans, identifying deliverables, and presenting results.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to appropriately identify and respond to client's business needs, and facilitate the presentation of recommendations. Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, integrate people processes, systems, and technologies, and make strategic decisions regarding project scope, impact, policy, development, and implementation.

Must demonstrate the ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in. Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and accountability for results. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project. Familiarity with State of California reporting requirements for public funds a plus.
