Position Overview:

The Clean Energy Market Development Analyst will be responsible for developing and maintaining market analysis for the Clean Energy Market Focus team. This market analysis will help drive BASF's development of market opportunities in clean energy; the team's initial targets will be wind and solar energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing recommendations for prioritizing new business targets
  • Developing and maintaining market analysis through ongoing relationships with target customers, suppliers, regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other market stakeholders throughout the wind and/or solar energy value chain
  • Tracking and monitoring the market with respect to competition, market sizes and dynamics, potential customers, and technology developments and providing feedback to key BASF stakeholders, including the Clean Energy Market Manager
  • Identifying and recommending external innovation partners and managing the relationships
  • Tracking BASF sales to the clean energy industry
  • Conducting secondary research drawing on diverse sources, including BASF internal publications, business and trade press articles, scientific publications, patent filings, and conference presentations
  • Conducting primary research as needed, which will include planning and conducting interviews, designing and running surveys, collating results, as well as communicating results to the team
  • Authoring and presenting descriptive documents that profile relevant markets, technologies, key issues, and companies, as well as internal market and competitive intelligence newsletters.
  • Developing strong relationships within the BASF market and competitive intelligence community
  • Establishing document templates and streamlining data collection processes to achieve efficiency

  • Prepare sales projections relating to strategic and operational planning

Communication Management:

  • Participate in industry events, symposia, and forums to build brand awareness and to collect insights on the markets
  • Build and develop internal and external networks and a plan for regular communication updates to key BASF stakeholders, including the Clean Energy Market Manager
  • Communicate to all key stakeholders in the wind/and or solar energy value chain, form alliances with industry partners/customers and work with regulatory organizations
  • Use market research to identify and prioritize market opportunities
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact successfully at all levels of management, as well as a diverse work force

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical or business field with 5+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategy Development, Marketing and Sales, Consulting, or Investment Advisory/Research OR an MBA with a technical undergraduate degree and at least 3+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategy Development, Marketing and Sales, Consulting or Investment Advisory/Research.
  • Approximately 5 years of experience in wind and/or solar energy
  • Successful relationships and current strategic contacts with key stakeholders throughout the wind and/or solar energy value chain
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with an entrepreneurial, collegial approach to work; flexibility to travel, as needed, up to 30% of the time
  • Strong skills in management of action plans, financial decision making, and coordination of multiple activities
  • Strong financial and analytical skills to support business and new product development projects
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Intellectual curiosity about emerging technologies and an ability to understand and communicate key business issues and trends
  • Strong listening and analytical skills
  • Excellent Microsoft office software and database management skills 

Desired:

  • 5+ years as an clean energy analyst or higher role in an advisory/market research/investment firm covering wind and/or solar energy
  • Experience working in an engineering or research and development role in a start-up or large corporation in wind and/or solar energy
  • Experience in clean energies beyond wind and solar is a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills; financial modeling experience
