Description
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida is a 5,800 member not-for-profit conservation organization founded in Naples, Florida, in 1964. The mission of the Conservancy is: "Preserving Southwest Florida's natural environment - now and forever."
The primary purpose of this position is to protect and manage fiduciary of funds, securities, and assets of the organization. This position reports to the President and CEO of the organization and is a full-time position with excellent benefits.
Essential Qualifications:
- Requires a strong dedication to the mission and culture of the organization, self-confidence and professionalism, high ethical standards, and good judgment.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field, and at least seven years of direct experience in financial management. MBA or CPA preferred.
- Proficient in technical, analytical, and operative aspects of accounting and computer systems, with working knowledge of a nonprofit environment.
- Working knowledge of Blackbaud accounting software preferred.
- Good communication and organizational skills, ability to work without supervision, and be part of the team effort with a personal commitment to maintaining a collaborative work environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Direct organization's accounting functions, establishing and maintaining the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Apply principles of accounting to analyze past and present financial operations and estimate future revenue/expenses, prepare financial reports and present findings and recommendations to top management in a timely and ongoing basis to serve needs of board, senior management, and related parties.
- Direct and coordinate formulation, monitoring, and presentation of budgets necessary to implement program objectives of organization.
- Provide leadership in the areas of accounting, finance, and general business matters.
- Develop and plan financial improvements for the organization.
- Establish and maintain communicative relationships with various financial institutions to ensure best investment of organization's funds.
- Interface with other departments to perform overlapping functions.
- Manage totally integrated computerized General Ledger Accounting system and related activities.
- Supervise and direct activities of accounting office personnel.
- Fulfill external reporting requirements, acting as liaison with auditing firm, governmental agencies, and all other 3rd party organizations doing business with the organization, as necessary.
- Monitor grants and contracts.
- Supervise investments and spending policy.
- Produce monthly reports for each division and provide support to managers as needed.
- Participate in supervision of IT staff and oversee computer operations, networking, telephone systems and needs of the organization.
- Maintain AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) code of ethics and confidentiality of all donor records and information.
