Position Overview:

The primary focus of this role is to provide technical leadership and develop engagements for Ricardo in the renewable energy space. The candidate will execute the CleanTech business strategy, which drives the business goals of acquiring new customer in key markets, maintaining and growing industry leadership along with supporting revenue and growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Ricardo engagements and secure profitable order book.
  • Establish yourself as an internal and external leader in issues of firm technical capability with respect to Alternative and Renewable Energy including but not limited to: wind power, solar thermal/electrical, bio/synthetic/waste fuel-to-energy, distributed power generation/CHP (including stationary/portable fuel cells), geothermal, marine/tidal, energy storage, etc.
  • Identify and maintain awareness of current and emerging advanced energy technologies, tools and methods as they impact the delivery of project.
  • Drive and manage internal technical staff pool to establish baseline capability across critical technical skills and capability.
  • Identify, integrate and standardize best practices with respect to key technical deliverables such as energy modeling and other technical analyses.
  • Lead project teams through alignment and delivery of technical deliverables, tools and methods with client engagements and needs.
  • Stimulate internal knowledge and interest in new innovations, technologies and approaches, educating technical and non-technical staff in their uses and applications.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership team to identify and create new service offerings.
  • 50% travel (minimum) is required.

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate shall demonstrate strong alternative and renewable energy technical skills gained directly from relevant project experience and education, and an ability to mentor, teach and train effectively, working with diverse groups and interests. 50% travel is expected.

  • An established network of industry contacts from which to draw potential access to new and emerging methods and technologies
  • Experience leading teams in a consultancy environment.
  • Superior strategic and analytical skills and the ability to present complex technical information to audiences with varying degrees of technical skill

8+ years demonstrated progressive advancement and success in applying advanced technical intervention on clean energy projects including, but not limited to:

  • (Preferred) Wind turbine or major wind subsystem manufacturer, technical consultancy, or utility affiliate
  • Solar Thermal/Electrical manufacturer, technical consultancy, or utility affiliate
  • Bio/Synthetic fuel subsystem manufacturer or technical consultancy
  • Biogas Digester subsystem manufacturer or technical consultancy
  • Waste-to-energy subsystem manufacturer or technical consultancy
  • Small scale DG/CHP manufacturer or technical consultancy

Unique background required:

  • Must demonstrate strong alternative and renewable energy technical skills gained directly from relevant project experience and education.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively mentor, teach and train diverse groups and interests.
  • Must possess an established network of industry contacts from which to draw potential access to new and emerging methods and technologies.
  • Superior strategic and analytical skills and the ability to present complex technical information to audiences information to audiences with varying degrees of technical skill.
  • Must exude confidence - influential with clients and colleagues. Able to drive results in desired direction.
  • Solid knowledge of and confidence in ability to use legal and business language, including familiarity with contracts, NDSs, IP, payment terms, proposals, pricing, margins; i.e., industry standards.
  • Highly motivated to sell and driven to get things done - a "hungry hunter" who is not afraid to venture into new markets to help diversify the company.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage a team of engineers and collaborate with operations to deliver, satisfy customers and achieve sales targets.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in order to work across functions and organizations.
  • Excellent listening and relationship-building skills.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering or MBA preferred.
