Position Overview
CHPS is currently seeking a Certification Program Reviewer to provide technical expertise for CHPS certification programs and the advancement of the CHPS national Core Criteria and regional rating systems.
The CHPS Certification Reviewer serves as a primary technical subject matter expert for the evaluation of projects pursuing CHPS recognition and products seeking listing on the CHPS High Performance Product database.
This individual draws on cross-cutting knowledge and direct experience with the CHPS Criteria rating system and the CHPS Verified and CHPS Designed recognition programs to serve as a qualified assessor, technical resource and problem-solver.
Note: This position is in the CHPS Headquarters office in Sacramento, CA.
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Review project documentation for prerequisites and credits for completeness and compliance with the region-specific CHPS Criteria rating system
- Provide enhanced review within designated specialty; expert review of criteria related to energy modeling, energy auditing, commissioning and ventilation
- Educate the CHPS marketplace through comments and technical advice to project teams
- Perform quality control (QC) review of work done by external CHPS Verified review teams
- Provide technical assistance as needed to other CHPS team members
- Contribute to the continued development and increased technical knowledge of CHPS reviewers through collaborative teamwork
- Targeted marketing and outreach
- Review product listing submitted for CHPS high performance product database including healthy, high performance product claims and interfacing with product manufacturer customers regarding their claims
Secondary Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and refining CHPS programs, policies and plans, as well as specific CHPS criteria language and reference materials
- Assist in conceiving and developing improvements to CHPS and the certification review process based on personal knowledge and experience, or user feedback
- Liaise with CHPS National Technical Committee and its subcommittees, CHPS Regional Partner committees, and other internal and external groups as needed
- Maintain currency of expertise by staying abreast of new and developing industry issues and trends
- Senior candidates may assist with mentoring other team members and provide other limited team management duties
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a field of study related to one or more of the following specialties: Engineering (mechanical, civil, structural), Architecture, Building Science or Building Operations (facility management, property management)
- Currently licensed professional in specialty area preferred. Other professional certifications as relevant to area of expertise
- Certified Energy Manager or Commissioning Certification preferred
- High Performance Building rater certification
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years direct professional experience in area of specialty
- Experience with a variety of high-performance building projects, including CHPS projects, other K-12 school projects, and/or specialization in a high-performance building attribute such as indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency, water efficiency, materials selection and waste reduction
- Ability to read, understand and interpret building floor plans, mechanical plans and schedules, sections, site plans, construction specifications and operational policies
- Detailed technical understanding of and experience with one or more of the following building operations topics: common construction methods, materials specification, fenestration, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems
- Detailed technical understanding of and experience with common environmental building codes and standards
- Detailed technical understanding of and experience with common green product standards and certifications

- Ability to work well both independently and on a team
- Self-starter
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software such as Civi-CRM, Basecamp, and web-based database platforms
Compensation: Salary range is $70-90,000 commensurate with experience.
