The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 17,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking an experienced and energetic professional to serve on the LEED team.
Position Overview:
The LEED Certification Coordinator is an integral member of the LEED Certification team, directly reporting to the Program Manager of the LEED Certification. Primary responsibilities shall include participating in the review of applications for project certifications and CIRs under the LEED Rating Systems.
The LEED Certification Coordinator will collaborate with senior technical staff, consultants, and project teams to evaluate project documentation, review technical inquiries, and prepare reports and correspondence. Additionally, the LEED Certification Coordinator will provide comprehensive support to one to two technical volunteer committees and staff leading the development and implementation of the LEED Rating Systems.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation
- As part of a new rating system or balloted credit change roll-out, carry out specific projects and assignments with USGBC Marketing, Market Development, GBCI, Communications and Education, including Greenbuild, staff in the development of targeted materials, information, workshops and trainings, publications, certification and accreditation adjustments, and volume program impacts.
- Perform specific projects and tasks in coordination with staff in the development of LEED rating system submittals for one or more LEED market sectors
- Technical Development
- Perform specific projects and tasks in coordination with staff in the development of LEED rating system credits for one or more LEED market sectors
- Large, Long Term LEED Technical Projects or Programs
- Perform specific projects and tasks in the development of a technical project or program
- Provide administrative support for implementation, training if appropriate, and project close out activities
- Perform specific projects and tasks in coordination with appropriate staff, e.g., IT if an LO project.
- QA/QC
- Facilitate the LEED certification review process including:
- Administrative and technical reviews and edits to draft documents;
- Discussions with and providing direction to LEED certification consultant teams;
- Communication-written and verbal-with project teams; and
- Coordinating as needed with USGBC Communications Services department on completed LEED certifications.
- Facilitate administrative process for and assist with technical reviews of all CIR draft rulings.
- Assist as needed with LEED Template and LEED Online updates and customer service.
- Provide technical support as needed to LEED Customer Service team via leed info email and phone inquiries.
- Support LEED technical committees - Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) - with the development and implementation of LEED Rating Systems including:
- Participate in regular scheduled TAG conference calls preparing and distributing agendas, discussion notes, memos, minutes and correspondence;
- Scheduling meetings and conference calls;
- Managing listservs and Web site content;
- Coordinating LEED product technical reviews;
- Coordinating TAG activities relating to the resolution of LEED Credit Interpretation Requests (CIRs);
- Serve as quality control for LEED CIR responses; and
- Manage new LEED committee member appointments, elections, and orientation for TAGs and application guide committees
- Facilitate the LEED certification review process including:
Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:
- Encourage and accelerate global adoption of green building practices through LEED standards, tools and performance criteria.
- Offer a comprehensive portfolio of programs including technical tools and services supporting LEED products to meet the diverse needs of the building industry.
- Deliver customer service that is professional, timely and targeted to the customer's needs.
- Provide Council with technical experience and knowledge as a design professional.
- Streamline LEED certification processes and procedures among consultants and committees.
- Create tools and methods to facilitate communication among both review and project teams, saving time and using resources most effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Architecture or Engineering required
- Professional practice experience preferred
- Knowledge of building design and construction (siting, envelope, structure)
- Working knowledge of building energy systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
- General understanding of high performance green building design specifically regarding energy modeling, indoor air quality, and material selection
- LEED Accredited Professional status preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and teams
- Energetic, detail-oriented, able to prioritize
- Passion for and commitment to USGBC's mission
