USGBC Students recruit, connect and equip the next generation of green building leaders by empowering them to transform their campuses, communities and careers. USGBC helps students integrate sustainability and green building themes into their coursework, advocate for sustainable university practices and policies, and work toward becoming LEED professionals. This group represents college and university-based groups of students from all disciplines. Currently, dozens of active student groups have affiliated with the program and USGBC Students expects to engage hundreds more nationwide over the next two years.  

Position Overview:

Interns for the USGBC Center for Green Schools Students Program will work as integral leaders of USGBC Students with an ability to participate in the development, implementation, management and growth of the program nationally.

These are unpaid, trimester-long internships with a schedule of approximately 10 hours per week that will be project-based practical learning experiences providing chosen applicants with an opportunity to help develop and operate a piece of a national non-profit program. USGBC Students is currently evolving and growing, and interns will participate in, and observe the process through, the lens of program management.

Internship Learning Objectives:

  • Familiarity with the development of large scale grassroots volunteer organization and programmatic structure
  • Experience in non-profit workplace and sector
  • Experience in sustainability and green building advocacy
  • Experience in the higher education markets
  • Familiarity with program management and growth
  • Develop new media tactics and best practices

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the development, launch, and maintenance of national programs and competitions
  • The facilitation of volunteer leadership in the field
  • Training and facilitation of student leaders and groups at campuses across the country
  • Comprehensive data management
  • New media utilization
  • Supporting program growth, including direct contact of potential new student leaders or participants
  • Event planning and organizational support for USGBC Student groups and USGBC National
  • Conducting research

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate degree program required

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in grassroots initiatives, and/or community engagement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Proficiency in New Media Platforms required

Other Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A strong interest in program management and organizational growth
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills (MS Office)
  • Experience with Adobe Suite preferred
  • Commitment to USGBC's mission
