Cascade Head Field Assistant

The Cascade Head (CH) Field Assistant will assist with biological data collection, public education, and preserve maintenance.

Specifically, position will help with research and monitoring of the coastal grassland community, the Oregon silverspot butterfly (Speyeria zerene hippolyta), and rare plant species; lead interpretive hikes; and assist with preserve maintenance tasks. The majority of the CH Field Assistant's time will be spent working in the field. Position requires working as part of a team, as well as working alone.

A high school diploma or GED is required, plus related college course work in the natural sciences and at least one field season of relevant work experience or no course work and at least two field seasons of relevant work experience. An ability to identify grasses and education or experience in entomology and natural history interpretation are preferred. Applicants must be motivated to learn.

Physical requirements of the job include the ability and willingness to work outdoors under variable weather conditions and hike 3-5 miles a day over steep terrain. Applicants must provide their own transportation. This position is based on The Nature Conservancy's Cascade Head Preserve near Lincoln City, Oregon.

The Cascade Head Field Assistant is a non-exempt position supervised by the Oregon Coast Stewardship Ecologist. The CH Field Assistant position begins June 1, 2002, and ends October 31, 2002. More than one position may be available. The CH Field Assistant will be paid $8.00/hour for 40 hours/week. Shared housing will be provided.
