Description

Background:

SEIU Local 6 is part of SEIU, the largest and fastest-growing union in
North America. After winning the biggest union election in Washington
States history, SEIU Local 6 is now poised to negotiate the first
contract for home care workers. In order to help win the contract, we
are seeking talented, committed organizers to mobilize workers in the
Tri Cities, Vancouver WA Spokane and Yakima areas.

Duties:

  • Organizers will conduct worksite meetings and house visits with
    workers;
  • develop daily and weekly work plans based on defined
    campaign goals;
  • use both NLRB and non-board organizing strategies;
  • build community coalitions;
  • work with the media;
  • identify worker
    issues;
  • conduct worker trainings;
  • mobilize workers and community
    members for actions and meetings;
  • plan and execute worker
    actions/demonstrations;
  • maintain accurate worksite information;
  • follow
    systems to track worker and employer data;
  • planning your own work;
  • be accountable to union officers, organizing supervisors, and fellow
    organizers;
  • identify regulatory, legal, legislative, community, and
    political issues appropriate for campaigns;
  • and assist lawyers in
    investigating and filing legal and regulatory charges and law suits to
    support organizing campaigns.

These positions are 9-12 month assignments. Continuation dependent
upon funding.

Qualifications:

  • You should apply if you have previous organizing
    experience in the labor movement or equivalent relevant experience in
    internal union organizing and/or community and issue campaigns;
  • are
    computer literate;
  • are willing to work long, irregular hours in a
    campaign environment;
  • have a drivers license and your own car;
  • and
    are passionately committed to building a militant and effective labor
    movement in Washington States long-term care industry.
