Founded in 1988, KLD Research & Analytics, Inc. is an independent investment research firm providing institutional investors with social and sustainability investment research, compliance services, consulting services, and indexes.

More than 400 clients worldwide use KLD products and services to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into their investment decisions. KLD's clients are institutional investors and money managers. KLD Indexes is a unit of KLD Research & Analytics. KLD's 13 domestic and global indexes are accepted as benchmarks for investment strategies that integrate ESG factors. Investment managers license KLD's indexes to create exchange traded funds, mutual funds, unit investment trusts, structured products, commingled accounts and separately managed accounts for institutional and retail investors. 

In 1990, KLD launched the Domini 400 Social Index - the first socially responsible investment index. Today, more than $10 billion is invested in funds based on KLD indexes. 

Job Description 

The Business Development Manager is responsible for helping build and develop business unit to manage, market and grow KLD's family of indexes. Focus on selling index licenses, asset gathering in licensee products, customer support, and building relationships with index market. Works with Managing Director to develop and implement business development strategy. 

1. Business development. Build relationships with indexers, potential licensees, exchanges, investment consultants and other partners in index creation and marketing. Promote KLD indexes at conferences and other business venues. Collaborate with Index Associate and Marketing Manager on market positioning. (40%) 

2. Licensing and sales. Work with Managing Director to establish licensing opportunities for investment product creation. Develop and implement sales campaigns. Includes relationship development and contract negotiation. (40%) 

3. Customer relationship management. Develop CRM plan for index unit. Differentiate client types and related services and support. Support asset gathering in licensee investment products. Work with index team to implement CRM plan. (20%)

Qualifications: 

Supervision 

The Business Development Manager works closely with Managing Director on strategy and planning. The position is directly responsible for implementing certain business development and sales activities, and for involving other index team members in the CRM plan. Managing Director reviews results on a regular basis and annually in a performance review. 

Influence/Leadership 

Leadership requirements and opportunities are significant. Must be able to work with a wide range of internal and external constituencies. Position requires substantial involvement with clients and potential clients, and thus is an important representation of KLD to the market. 

Education/Experience 

A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree or 3-5 years related experience is preferred. CFA or other financial certification is a plus. Requires general technical understanding of indexes and related data, investment products, and financial markets. The applicant needs a broad range of quantitative and interpersonal skills for internal project work and customer contact. Ability to work both independently and in groups. Candidate must have exceptional attention to detail. Strong writing and communication skills are essential. Must be an effective public speaker.
