The Green Building Alliance is a nonprofit that integrates environmentally responsible and high performance construction  and operating practices into the Greater Pittsburgh market.

Overview of Job: The Business Development Manager will manage the Green Building Products Initiative for the Green Building Alliance, and, in this capacity, the organization's relationships with the Pennsylvania manufacturing community.

Additionally, the Business Development Manager will drive economic development activity related to green product manufacturing across Pennsylvania. The Business Development Manager should have exceptional relationship-building skills, financial acumen and comfort with financial documents; and relevant understanding of and experience with manufacturing industries and economic development. This position reports to the Deputy Director.

Duties to be Performed:

1. Manage and oversee implementation of the Green Building Products Initiative (GBPI) business plan

* Manage the operation and delivery of the GBPI research grant program
* Manage vendor relationships as needed to establish and operate the program
* Fulfill required grant reporting and any other stipulations 
* Coordinate with the Education Director on development and delivery of the GBPI training program 
* Coordinate with state agencies regarding program progress and performance
* Develop all necessary systems and structure to effectively administer the program
* Play key decision-making role in GBPI website activity, and develop and/or direct development of appropriate content for this site

2. Manage and grow the GBPI industry network

* Establish and increase participation by target markets; manage vendor relationships with outside consultant(s) working on GBPI to identify manufacturing firms in PA that produce or are interested in producing green building products; recruit these companies to participate in the network
* Meet target metrics for GBPI network participation and activity as established by DD and ED
* Identify, understand and report on market needs; monitor available literature and resources and manage activity, whether focus groups, site visits, surveys, or other tactics to solicit input from prospective members regarding services that GBA can provide to the network
* Develop appropriate network activities to drive economic development and remove barriers

3. Manage the PA Green Growth Partnership agreements and structure

4. Manage contracts and relationships with GBPI partner agencies and institutions for delivery of GBPI direct services

5. Identify sponsorship opportunities 

* Annually provide target list of potential sponsors to Education Manager in timely manner for annual sponsor solicitation program
* Ongoing throughout the year, identify sponsorship opportunities, establish relationships, make introductions, and coordinate with Education Manager, who will finalize sponsorships 
* Identify and suggest value propositions to the Education Manager that would attract GBPI participants as sponsors of the education and/or Green$ense activities

Required Experience, Education & Certifications

* Master's level degree strongly preferred. Four-year degree required.
* Minimum 8-10 years of professional experience in a role that required similar relationship-building and relationship management skills, whether business development, sales, coaching, economic development or other relevant experience.
* Demonstrable knowledge of green building movement required through past work, volunteer activity, or other qualifications.
* LEED AP certification required within one year of hire.
* Proven ability to cultivate and grow relationships among various constituencies.
* Knowledge of and credentials relevant to the built environment, green building and the triple-bottom line.
* Economic development experience required. Familiarity with the PA economic development system especially helpful.
* Relevant work experience in driving innovation in a commercial setting required. 
* Experience in the manufacturing industry strongly preferred. 
* Candidate must exhibit a demonstrable conservation ethic.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
* Strong communications skills, both verbal and written are required. 
* Professional appearance and demeanor; strong presentation ability. 
* Highly organized self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Positive attitude, willingness to take on tasks and function as team player.
* Able to accommodate short-notice changes, revisions and occasionally busy environment with multiple demands and deadlines without becoming flustered.
* Able to establish and maintain clear, concise, thorough written and electronic records. 
* Demonstrated ability to use the Internet, and comfort with innovative technology solutions.

General Requirements: Able to travel regularly, including some overnight trips. Willing and able to use own vehicle on company business. Able to climb three flights of stairs on a daily basis.
