Description
WOCCU is an apex trade association and development agency of the international credit union movement. It currently has long-term credit union development projects in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central & South America, and Central & Eastern Europe.
Job Description:
Identify opportunities for and conduct project development including field assessment, proposal writing, liaison with credit union movements and negotiations with funders. Directly manage contracts and grants specific to but not exclusive of potential regions located in Latin America, The Caribbean, Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. In close collaboration with WOCCU technical staff and field offices assist WOCCU's senior managers in monitoring and supporting all technical programs.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Project Development: Conduct project development. This will include exploratory assessments and visits to credit union movements and funders, financial and operational field analysis, project design, proposal writing, project marketing and funder negotiations. All proposals will be consistent with WOCCU project development guidelines as well as WOCCU institutional principles and standards;
- Project Evaluation: Participate in monitoring and evaluation of technical field programs as needed. Evaluate progress of credit unions and projects against the project work plan and goals, analyze financial condition of the project participant credit unions, review management of project assets and review consistency of project approach and methodologies with WOCCU principles and standards;
- Technical Support: participate in reviewing and documenting technical tools, which form the WOCCU Model Credit Union methodology and expand project implementation methodologies. Help develop tools and train field staff in the implementation of those tools.
Job Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree in business, finance, banking or economics or related field or equivalent training and experience;
- At least ten (10) years experience in the funding, designing and analysis of business development programs and five (5) years of project management experience in development and MicroFinance is required;
- Proven success in identifying and obtaining multi-million dollar project opportunities, designing rigorous MicroFinance programs and securing funding for long-term development finance projects is required;
- Knowledge of credit union development activities and the functions and operations of credit unions and the credit union system is highly desirable;

- Information Systems applications and programs plus PC skills - word processing, spreadsheets and data bases;
- Bilingual Skills including English and/or Spanish, French languages;
- The ideal candidate may possess experience working or volunteering in a not-for-profit organization; experience working in another culture also preferred.

- The position includes up to 120 days per year including both domestic and international travel.
