TransFair USA, an international, cutting-edge non-profit is seeking experienced Business Affairs Director to help us increase sales of Fair Trade Certified coffee. TransFair USA provides the only certification for Fair Trade products in the US. In the last 4 years, Fair Trade coffee has become the fastest growing segment of the $18.5 billion coffee industry. We partner with over 550,000 coffee farming families around the world and now certify over 180 coffee, tea and chocolate purveyors in the US. Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer
Schedule: Full time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend travel
Salary: Competitive salary, dependent on experience. Includes full benefits.

Overview of Position: The Business Affairs Director is responsible for increasing sales of Fair Trade Certified coffee through supporting sales of current coffee roaster partners and also closing deals with new companies to sell Fair Trade Certified coffee.

Specific duties include:

  • Oversee annual sales strategies and plans for Fair Trade Certified coffee in the US market.
  • Manage accounts for key roaster partners (product roll-out, PR support management, marketing materials, origin tours, staff training).
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to increase Fair Trade sales through roasters and coffee oriented retail channels.
  • Negotiate agreements with new coffee companies to begin to offer Fair Trade Certified coffee.
  • Manage staff of account managers.
  • Evaluate market opportunities for product expansion and direct new product development initiatives.

Qualifications:


5 - 7 years sales experience in the coffee or specialty beverage industry preferred. Experience in both retail and wholesale coffee sales. Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate and close sales, and to manage a sales team to achieve results. Solid writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proficient in Internet technologies and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Spanish language skills a plus. Travel is required. Based in Oakland, CA.
