Position Overview: 

The Building Science Specialist I will provide technical support and service to the Affordable Housing program and focus on growing the initiative in North Carolina. Position is estimated to last approximately 1 year.  Potential exists for the Building Science Specialist I to become a long-term, regular position with Advanced Energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Refine and carry out objectives of the SystemVision expansion plan in North Carolina; identify, recruit and orient affordable housing developers and builders to the program; track recruitment activity and provide technical training to newly recruited participants.
  • Provide building science services to affordable housing developers and builders participating in the AE SystemVision program.
  • Build and cultivate strong relationships with developers, builders, government agencies and internal staff; utilize coordination, communication and problem solving skills to successfully meet deadlines and promote collaboration and teamwork.
  • Conduct applied building science diagnostics: visit structures, conduct measurement tests, record results, summarize data, recommend solutions, define and interpret the importance of the implementation of corrective measures, and perform quality control.
  • Perform field testing for defined customers.
  • Perform building plan reviews, including load calculations and/or performance analysis.
  • Participate on project teams, adhering to project scope, timelines, and budget.
  • Assist in internal program process improvements, program development, financial management, strategic growth planning, and overall operation of the program.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field required, plus 1 year internship or other technical work experience in building science.  Knowledge of the North Carolina affordable housing market preferred.  Individual must have a high degree of skill in written/verbal communication, as well as a commitment to providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.  Excellent time management and multi-tasking ability is required.  Position may require travel up to 50%.
