Tillamook County is a General Law County organized in 1853. Located on the North Oregon Coast, it has a population of 24,000. Tillamook is the home of world famous Tillamook cheese, and the dairy industry is a major player in the local economy. Other major industries include forest products, fishing and tourism.
Tillamook County is comprised of 75 miles of scenic coastline, four bays and five major rivers surrounded by the majestic Coast Range. Tillamook, the County seat, is located only 75 miles from the cultural and entertainment amenities of Portland. Tillamook County has a workforce of approximately 275 employees represented by two bargaining units.
Position Overview:
Tillamook County is currently seeking to fill the positon of "Building Official."
Responsibilities:
- The Building Official assures that structures which are being built, remodeled, or repaired are in compliance with appropriate state codes, Oregon Revised Statutes, Oregon Administrative rules, and city and County ordinances.
- In addition to performing the work of a journey-level Building Inspector, the Building Official has authority to issue Stop Work Orders and interpret codes which can be enforced at the discretion of the Building Official.
- The Building Official serves as a first level staff supervisor and as an advisor to the Community Development Department Director.
- The Building Official is responsible for administrating the legal aspects of Oregon codes for Tillamook County.
Qualifications:
- Must have 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a building inspector which includes successful experience as a project leader or supervisor.
- Must have Certification as a Building Inspector and Plans Examiner through the ICBO/ICC and Certification as a Building Official within the State of Oregon from the ICC.
- Experience as a city or county building official desirable.
- Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record, upon hire.
Knowledge:
- In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities identified for journey-level Building Inspectors, must possess thorough knowledge of the permitting process in relation to building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and fire codes.
Abilities:
- Able to develop work unit plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Able to supervise and direct the work of others to attain high quality work in an efficient manner.
- Able to explain code requirements to the general public, employees, boards and commissions, and professionals engaged in the construction industry.
- Able to read and understand laws, ordinances, blueprints and construction plans.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- In the office work is sedentary in nature.
- In the course of field inspections, work involves bending, climbing, lifting up to 30 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, stretching, prolonged standing, and walking in structures that are under construction and on uneven ground.
- Work can be performed in adverse weather.
- Safety precautions can reduce but not entirely eliminate hazards.
Compensation: $4787 - $6551 per month
