Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is a contract R&D organization based in Cambridge, MA. Fraunhofer CSE was created through a partnership between MIT, the State of Massachusetts and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Germany. Fraunhofer CSE is dedicated to serving the research needs of the sustainable energy industry, helping established industry players and newcomers alike move clean energy technologies from the laboratory to the production line. The Center focuses on 2 key areas: building energy efficiency and PV module testing and innovation.
Position Overview:
The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for a Building Construction Engineer to join its Building Energy Efficiency Group. This is an opportunity to work with one of the world's leading research groups, including our partners at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), to develop, model, test, and evaluate cutting-edge building efficiency solutions for a wide variety of clients. You'll be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the practical feasibility of fabricating and installing novel building envelope system, including compatibility with existing building structures and practices
- Manage and supervising projects to demonstrate, test, and evaluate the effectiveness of novel building technologies in host buildings.
- Work with a team to develop novel, energy-efficient building envelope systems.
- Contribute to proposals to develop, test, and evaluate the performance of novel energy-efficient building envelope systems
Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of construction processes, including experience with retrofit envelope systems.
- In-depth knowledge of building code issues and test procedures for building envelope systems
- Practival experience evaluating the material and installation costs and limitations of conventional and novel building envelope systems.
- Understanding of high-volume fabrication processes for building envelope systems.
- Strong interest in working in a research and development environment to develop novel envelope systems and components
- Experience managing commercial building renovation projects
- 5+ years of experience and a degree in Architecture, Architectural or Civil Engineering or equivalent experience in the construction industry.
