Description

Northland College, the Environmental Liberal Arts College on the south shore of Lake Superior, seeks applicants for a unique opportunity in the history of the college.

Job Overview:

The Bro Professor of Regional Sustainable Development will lead a three-way integration between the academic program of the college, the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute (SOEI), and the agencies, governmental and non-governmental, who represent the needs of the Chequamegon Bay region.

The Bro Professor will teach two or three courses in an academic program and create opportunities for Northland faculty, staff, and students to work with regional players on sustainable regional development.

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated success in both disciplinary teaching and research as well as in mentoring outreach programs and experiential education. The initial appointment will be a 5-year renewable contract, with the possibility of conversion to a tenure-track appointment.

The Bro Professorship is a 12 month position with 22 days of annual vacation. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an additional calendar month released to pursue research and teaching projects.

Job Requirements:

Ph.D. preferred, Master's required. Preference will be given candidates whose training enables them to support the environmental liberal arts mission of the college. Persons without the Ph.D, but with significant experience mentoring outreach programs, experiential education, or service-learning may be considered.

Candidates must have outstanding communication and organizational skills and the ability to extend the boundaries of the campus into community relationships that enhance sustainability. A proven track record of establishing experientially-based outreach programs with successful outcomes assessment is strongly preferred. Evidence of success in matching students with opportunities for skills development, managing logistics and risk management of learning contracts, tracking and assessment of student and partnership outcomes, and grant writing is sought.

To Apply:
