The BlueGreen Alliance was launched in 2006 by the United Steelworkers and the Sierra Club, as a unique labor-environmental collaboration that has grown to include the Communications Workers of America (CWA), Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Service Employees International Union (SEIU), National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, United Auto Workers and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). Position Overview:

The BlueGreen Alliance's San Francisco office is seeking a smart, organized, energetic person with strong research and communications skills to assist BGA's communications team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth for a talented individual committed to clean energy and social equity issues.

Work will primarily consist of writing articles about clean energy success stories and letters to the editor, updating our website, increasing BGA's visibility by using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter, updating the database of the organization's media coverage, editing various documents, and other responsibilities depending on our current campaigns.  The applicant may be asked to attend meetings to take notes and some administrative support functions may also be part of the job.

This position will be unpaid and temporary beginning in September and ending in December. A minimum commitment of 24 hours per week is required, though if more time can be volunteered that will be to the applicants advantage. We prefer applicants that can commit to a regular and consistent schedule.  We are willing to work with academic institutions for credit eligibility considerations. The internship will be based in our San Francisco office.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent research and written/oral communication skills.
  • Background in communications and knowledge of or interest in the clean energy and/or labor movement preferred.
  • Experience with website updates and social media a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible, positive, take initiative, have good judgment, and a good sense of humor.
  • Strong interest in learning about energy and economic development policy and advocacy.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • A strong commitment to BGA's mission and principles.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred, but any applicant with the requisite communication and research skills will be considered.
  • Experience with policy analysis is highly desirable.
  • Experience with labor organizations or prior non-profit work is also desirable.

  • Working 7-8 hours seated at a desk and using a computer
