Position Overview:
Terrapin, a green think tank and consulting firm, is seeking a full-time Research Analyst with strong communication skills and a particular interest in Biomimicry who will be able to take on a variety of multi-disciplinary research projects, as well as some graphics and administrative tasks. The Research Analyst will support Project Managers and firm Partners to carry out a number of both short and long-term projects with opportunities for client interaction and long-term growth within the firm.
Terrapin's Biomimicry program, the New York Biomimicry Innovators Group (NY-BIG), is a NYSERDA funded program working with academics and manufacturers to advance nature-inspired research and development, and achieve innovations in energy efficiency, with the goal of expanding economic development in New York State. A substantial portion of the Research Analyst's responsibilities will include, but not be limited to supporting the NY-BIG program and other biomimicry projects.
Qualifications & Responsibilities:
- Excellent editing, verbal and written communications skills, as a good deal of the job of "Consultant" lies in appropriately messaging our work for clients.
- Ability to take initiative to work independently, but should also be able to follow directions and be confident about asking for guidance when necessary.
- Ability to comprehend biological research and communicate it effectively to team members and clients.
- Ability to look beyond smaller details to find broader connections and opportunities for a project. Terrapin's work depends upon marrying the expertise of team members from a number of different disciplines and pulling out the essential, big-picture strategies.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office software. Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (CS6) programs is preferred but not required.
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized amidst distractions, communicate directly with project managers, and produce high-quality written work.
- Previously demonstrated interest or involvement with the world of sustainable design, environmental conservation, and Biomimicry is highly encouraged.
- Undergraduate course work in the earth sciences, energy systems, architectural studies, engineering or manufacturing is also beneficial.
- Must be comfortable with deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- An undergraduate degree is required.
- 0-2 years related work experience. Salary to commence with experience, with opportunity for growth and professional advancement.
