Position Summary

River Partners, a private, non-profit corporation based in Chico, California, is seeking a Biological Technician for its Modesto, California office to collect and analyze monitoring data, write reports, set up experiments, interact with agency staff and research scientists, and assist with other activities related to the restoration of riparian and aquatic habitats. The Biological Technician works with the Restoration Biologist/Ecologist to identify, evaluate, and complete restoration activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collects monitoring data or supervises data collection, develops and maintains databases, and analyzes data.
  • Completes annual monitoring reports and sections of other documents including restoration plans.
  • Coordinates monitoring and other field activities with Restoration Field Manager.
  • Collects, processes, and delivers native plant materials for propagation.
  • Participates in education activities and develops/updates outreach materials for the public, as well as attending events to promote the organization.
  • Develops and maintains good relations with agency personnel and project neighbors.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Creatively solve problems and learn new skills.
  • Effectively communicate complicated biological findings orally and in writing.
  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills, ability to work under multiple deadlines, and flexibility to handle changing priorities.
  • Competently use word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and other programs.
  • Possess experience collecting, organizing, and analyzing field data.
  • Cooperatively work with field crews, coworkers, and the public.
  • Demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of statistics, experimental design, and data collection.
  • Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred, but not required.

Education and Experience

At a minimum, candidates should have a B.S. in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related science and at least one year of appropriate work experience. Successful candidates must possess a valid California Drivers license with no restrictions and be able to lift 70 pounds.
