Description
Bluff Lake Nature Center is an urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom in east Denver. Bluff Lake is home to an abundance of animals and native plants, and includes a variety of habitats, including short-grass prairie, wetlands and riparian corridor. Bluff Lake's elementary school program works primarily with low-income students in Denver, Aurora, and Adams County. The Bilingual Education Specialist will serve as the primary educator for all on-site and classroom programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Teach all education programs, including field and classroom programs
2. Develop and maintain an inventory of teaching supplies
3. Prepare teaching materials at the beginning of each day
4. Orient volunteers on the day's activities
5. Greet bus, give introduction and orient teachers and students
6. Work with Education Team to develop new programs, activities and curriculum
7. Assist with administrative duties
Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred
- BS in wildlife biology, environmental science or related field
- 2 years of experience in environmental education or interpretation desired
- Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to traverse at least 3 miles of hilly terrain
- Ability to work as part of team and a desire to work with all ages
- A commitment to the mission and goals of Bluff Lake Nature Center
Compensation: Annual starting salary up to $30,000, depending on experience. 2/3 of health insurance paid, including vision and dental. 2 weeks vacation, 3 weeks after 1 year of service.
