1Sky is a powerful new campaign to build a movement at the scale of the climate challenge by communicating a pro-active vision, and advocating a clear, simple set of goals and policy initiatives. 1Sky was borne from the collective urgency and determination of a diverse group of leaders with many strengths, audiences, and organizing strategies and 1Sky aggregates that power. 1Sky is building a central staff in the DC area, and up to 50 organizers placed with partner organizations in target congressional districts around the country, to carry out our mission.
Position Overview:
1Sky and Ceres seek a Program Associate to assist in the mobilization and organization of major US businesses around the need to develop federal climate change legislation. The position is based at the Ceres office in Boston, Massachusetts. The Associate will work with the Ceres program Directors in their efforts to recruit companies to join the Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy (BICEP) coalition and to support the 1Sky policy platform. The Associate will report to Anne Kelly, Director of Governance Programs at Ceres.
Responsibilities:
- Implement Ceres BICEP outreach strategies to effectively reach major US businesses.
- Assist the Ceres staff in the building and expanding BICEP.
- Help to generate national media coverage on behalf of BICEP.
- Assist in the coordination of policy briefings and meetings with key Congressional leaders/staffers
- Provide necessary administrative support for BICEP’s outreach and activities
- Track and report campaign deliverables.
Qualifications:
- 1 year organizing experience in electoral, issue and/or legislative campaigns.
- Experience engaging and motivating large numbers of volunteers.
- Experience working collaboratively with other organizations with diplomacy.
- Ability to work under pressure, under deadline, and to think quickly.
- Ability to work well independently, and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with and understanding of climate and energy-related issues and advocacy would be ideal but is not required
- Experience working with elected officials and/or lobbyists
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Willingness to travel to Washington, DC on occasion
Compensation: Competitive salary range in the low to mid thirties.
This full-time position is based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is a 1-year position, with possibility of extension.
