For nearly 30 years, the mission of Washington Wild has been to protect and restore wild lands and rivers in Washington State through advocacy, education and civic engagement. Since 1979, we have been instrumental in permanently protecting over one million acres of wilderness. We are a non-profit organization that brings people together in the vigorous defense of our remaining wild forests, waters and wildlife. We believe that public lands are a public issue. By educating, empowering and mobilizing our communities, Washington Wild builds powerful grassroots networks that help protect wild lands throughout the state.
Position Overview:
Each year we hold an annual dinner and auction to help financially support our various conservation programs. We are looking for a dedicated auction intern who is passionate about the environment to help work on this year's event: A Wild Night Out 2013.
The intern will help us prepare for and run our annual dinner and silent and live auction, which will take place on Saturday, October 19. This position includes several different types of tasks including soliciting donations and prepping materials. Our annual auction is our largest fundraising event and a fantastic opportunity for an intern who is interested in gaining experience with event planning, fundraising, media and/ or communications.
Responsibilities:
Activities and tasks this job could include assisting the Membership & Development Director (MDD) in all auction-related tasks, including but not limited to:
- Event planning and organizing
- Media and outreach
- Soliciting and collecting donations from local vendors and organizations
- Attending auction committee meetings (1-2 evenings/month)
- Assisting with all auction-related mailings and e-mails
- Helping to coordinate volunteers day of the event
- Organizing and categorizing donation and other information prior to the event
- Prepping auction materials including bidder files, bid sheets, and donor files
- Assist with set up day of the event, including with decorations
- Working with all of our auction vendors as needed
- Assisting on all other auction-related activities as they arise
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate:
- Has experience in planning or managing large-scale events
- Is organized, responsible, has great attention to detail
- Is outgoing, comfortable talking with different groups of people and able to share their interest and enthusiasm with others
- Has excellent written and spoken communications skills
- Is comfortable and professional speaking over the phone
- Has excellent time-management skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Is flexible and has a sense of humor
- Works well in a team setting and independently
- Has basic computer skills, such as Word processing and Excel
- Can represent Washington Wilderness in a professional and respectable manor
- Is willing to take on a number of different tasks to help our organization fulfill our mission and make this auction a success!
- Has a driver's license and a clean driving record, and can pass a criminal background check

This is an unpaid internship which offers invaluable work experience and event-planning assistance with an established environmental non-profit.
Expected start date is early to mid-August until the date of the Auction on October 19th. Expected hours will be around 10 - 20 per week, which will increase in the weeks immediately before the auction. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter.
