The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.2 million members and online activists. We have offices in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Beijing. Our staff of over 300 includes attorneys, scientists, policy analysts and educators working to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.
Position Overview:
NRDC seeks to hire a full-time attorney to join the staff of NRDC's Ecosystem Project in our Los Angeles office. Currently the Los Angeles office of NRDC works on a variety of issues involving environmental justice, Clean Water Act enforcement, air quality, equity in urban planning, and endangered species and marine mammal protection.
The attorney will work on ecosystems issues as part of a team focusing on endangered species litigation, open space preservation, and land use planning. This position involves litigating new and existing cases, administrative advocacy, working with grassroots organizations, and legislative analysis and lobbying.
Qualifications:
We are seeking someone with the following qualifications: 5-9 years litigation experience; superior academic background; and excellent written and oral communications skills. A demonstrated interest in environmental protection or a background in environmental science is a plus. The successful applicant will also possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to manage and prioritize a heavy workload while working as a member of a team.
