Position Overview 
Great Ecology is looking for an Associate Scientist with a specialization in mitigation banking to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists, landscape architects, designers, and planners.
The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of ecologists and designers to conceptualize and implement facets of mitigation banking projects throughout the United States for a variety of clients including mitigation banking companies, landowners, investors, and other entities.
The candidate will critically analyze technically complex problems, work collaboratively with a team, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to present scientific and business solutions to clients in a clear, professional manner.
In addition to leading projects, the position requires the Associate Scientist to provide technical support on all aspects of mitigation banking including: evaluation of banking opportunities, market assessments, technical report writing including mitigation banking instruments, 404/401 permitting, restoration plans, agency consultation and permitting, client communications, business development, and strategic business planning.
We envision the Associate Scientist to help build, and eventually lead, the company's growing mitigation banking practice.
Note: This individual will be based in any of our 6 locations including San Diego, Sacramento, New York, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Lexington.  

Responsibilities  

  • Manage mitigation banking projects throughout the US;
  • Oversee the entire process of bank creation from identifying opportunities to establishing a bank;
  • Work closely with professional mitigation banking companies and investor groups;
  • Produce banking instruments and provide support with technical information;
  • Provide technical support for credit pricing and sales, and evaluation of market demand;
  • Guide clients through mitigation permitting with state and federal regulatory agencies;
  • Mentor staff on aspects of mitigation banking; and
  • Expand potential client network by supporting ongoing outreach and banking business development efforts for a variety of clients. 

Qualifications  

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • Master's Degree or 8 years of professional, relevant work experience;
  • 2-6 years of professional mitigation banking experience with at least 3 years as a consultant;
  • Deep understanding of the "business" of banking (ecology, finance, legal, economics);
  • Efficient with technical report preparation and development of banking instruments;
  • Experience managing project timelines and budgets up to $10M;
  • Ability to solve complex problems using innovative, unique strategies and solutions;
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills: confidence in dealing with clients, regulators, and team members at all levels and functions;
  • Strong organizational skills to complete projects on time and within budget;
  • Rigorously detail oriented and committed to accuracy; and
  • Flexibility to travel.
