Product Stewardship Institute, Inc. (PSI) is a national non-profit environmental institute with membership from 47 states, over 200 local governments, and more than 75 businesses, organizations, universities, and non-U.S. governments. PSI establishes cooperative agreements to reduce the health and environmental impacts from consumer products.

PSI's mission is to pursue initiatives to ensure that all those involved in the lifecycle of a product share responsibility for reducing its health and environmental impacts, with producers bearing primary financial responsibility.

The Product Stewardship Institute envisions a society in which products are responsibly manufactured, used, and managed after use to conserve resources and protect the environment and human health.

Position Overview: 

The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) seeks an upbeat, energetic, and dedicated individual who thinks creatively, works well independently and collaboratively, and thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial organization. The Associate of Outreach and Communications will become part of a strong team and help build a growing environmental non-profit to the next stage of its development.

The Associate of Outreach and Communications will report to the Director of Communications and Marketing, and will assist the Director in implementing the communications and marketing strategy for the organization, including assisting with publicity and press releases, developing marketing materials, maintaining and developing membership and partnership relations and funding opportunities, planning and organizing PSI events, and enhancing digital and social media outreach tools. Responsibilities:

Publicity/Communications/Outreach: 

Assist the Communications Director to implement communications and marketing strategy, including the preparation, distribution, and archiving of press releases, articles, newsletters, event announcements, news updates, and marketing pieces.

Website & Social Media:

Work with the Director of Communications, marketing consultant and policy associates to maintain and improve website, including content updates, and development of new pages.

Contact Databases:

Maintain contact database, track undeliverable emails, new project categories, press contact list, and member/partner rolls.

Memberships:

Assist the Director of Communications to contact and follow-up with all membership leads, maintain steady, strong relationships with existing members, and solicit renewals. Assist in preparing membership packets; conducting membership outreach and developing marketing materials; and coordinating annual PSI Member/Partner Meeting.

Partnerships:

Assist the Director of Communications to contact and follow-up with all partnership leads, maintain steady, strong relationships with existing partners, and solicit renewals. Assist in developing reciprocal partnership agreements with other non-profit organizations; prepare partnership packets; assist in partnership outreach, and develop marketing materials.

Events Planning:

Assist in the logistics, promotion, execution, and follow-up of all PSI events, including in-person meetings and conferences, as well as webinars, conference calls, and other outreach opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, environmental policy, or equivalent required. Graduate degree a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Adept use of Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with websites, constant contact, social media, and other marketing tools strongly preferred.
  • Experience with publicity, marketing, communications, outreach preferred.
  • Knowledge of and interest in environmental laws, regulations, and programs.
  • Familiarity with product management issues preferred, such as product design, collection, reuse, recycling, source reduction, and toxicity.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience (includes a generous benefits package)
