Position Overview:
Great Ecology is looking for an Ecologist to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and designers working on restoration ecology and sustainability planning projects throughout the United States. This position is for an intermediate level staff with experience in southern California habitats, and the ability to work independently, contribute to complex watershed and restoration planning, and present scientific solutions to clients in a clear professional manner.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to comprehensive planning for watersheds, ecological restoration and conservation
- Oversee and manage restoration implementation
- Write biological reports and technical documents
- Prepare permits for environmental regulatory agencies (e.g. wetland, endangered species)
- Conduct fieldwork including wetland delineations and biological inventories
- Provide project management support (e.g. tracking budgets, deliverables)
Qualifications:
We are seeking applicants with the following background:
- Master's Degree, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years' work experience in Ecology, Biology or related sciences
- Preferred but not required: familiarity with permitting processes and the Clean Water Act, CDFG Section 1600; CEQA; and NEPA (ESA credentials preferred)
- Preferred but not required: familiarity with Natural Resource Damages (NRD) and other state and federal frameworks for regulating natural resources
- Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Preferred but not required: GIS ArcMap
- Strong communication skills; ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas as a writer and public speaker
- Strong organizational skills to complete projects on time and budget
- Ability to solve problems and provide innovative, unique solutions
