We do that through graduate and undergraduate teaching; scholarly and applied research; and practical engagement with the business community to bring back new challenges and opportunities to inform our teaching and research.

Responsibilities*

The Associate Director, Student-Alumni Affairs executes the Erb Institute's five-year "Business, Sustainability & Justice" strategy across the institute's graduate, undergraduate and alumni programs. You will lead the delivery of student and alumni programming, with support of two full-time Coordinators.

Program Strategy:

  • Recruitment Strategies: You will develop and implement inclusive approaches to attract and retain top-tier candidates for both graduate and undergraduate programs. You will build partnerships with Ross and SEAS Admissions departments; deliver recruiting presentations; participate in one-on-one student meetings; track application admissions processes; manage undergraduate application review and selection processes; and onboard student cohorts.
  • Co-Curricular Design: You will design the Erb-on-the-Road and other co-curricular field experiences for graduate and undergraduate students in Detroit and other regions of Michigan.
  • Scale Impact: You will lead efforts to increase the institute impact from current audience of 200 graduate and undergraduate students at Ross and SEAS, to hundreds of students across U-M, to potentially thousands of students through networks and partnerships with schools nationally and abroad.

Student Experience:

  • Co-curricular offerings: You will design the latest workshops, speakers, and business roundtables as co-curricular learning experiences for graduate and undergraduate students with Erb Institute leadership and faculty.
  • Student Learning: You will manage the institute's signature action- and place-based learning program of Impact Projects for graduate and undergraduate Erb Institute students in partnership with the Erb Institute Faculty Director and the Program Director for Erb Fellows program.
  • Student Life: You will advise graduate and undergraduate Erb-student leadership and support their professional development, personal well-being and community-building across student cohorts and with Erb's global alumni. Lead the planning of signature community engagement activities, such as new-student orientation, holidays dinner and graduation celebrations.
  • Network Building: You will develop collaborative relationships with several schools, partners and industry networks to enhance learning experiences for graduate and undergraduate students. Represent the institute in external forums and deliver content as an instructor, guest speaker or panelist in education, business and environment events.
  • Alumni Engagement: You will lead the institute's alumni-engagement strategy to support alumni in professional development, global networking, ongoing involvement and supporting current student projects, career visioning and job hunting, including the bi-annual Erb Returns alumni reunion in collaboration with institute alumni.

Management, Finance & Administration:

  • Management: You will manage two full-time direct-report Student-Alumni Affairs Coordinators who support the Associate Director in fulfilling the above responsibilities.
  • Finance: You will build the Student-Alumni Affairs budget; approve expenditures, student grants and scholarship disbursements; allocate expenses to the respective institute's donor funds; and provide internal financial reporting to Ross Finance and Ross Donor Relations.
  • Administration: You will manage student and alumni data on Salesforce.

Required Qualifications*

  • You have a minimum of five years of related work experience, or equivalent education/work combination, in higher education, business management and/or environmental program management.
  • Demonstrated project management and administration skills, with ability to manage changing and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated attentiveness.
  • Desire to excel with a team but also work independently.
  • Demonstrated use of Microsoft, Apple and Windows environments, and Google applications.
  • Demonstrated writing, speaking, and presenter skills.
  • Language: Written/Spoken English required.

Compensation

Salary Information:

The general salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. Candidates can expect to be paid a competitive and equitable salary. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position. All candidates are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
