The mission of the Center for Environment & Society (CES) is to promote the integration of environmental and social values. The Center explores with its constituents the reciprocal relationship between humankind and the natural world- past, present, and future- through interdisciplinary learning, research, and exemplary stewardship of natural and cultural resources. Our stakeholders are the students, faculty and staff of Washington College, as well as the communities in which we live and study.
Position Overview:
The Washington College Center for Environment & Society invites applications for an Associate Director position beginning July 1, 2011. The successful candidate will be an energetic, broadly trained, and experienced Ph.D. in the natural sciences.
Responsibilities:
The Associate Director will help to plan, organize and direct the operations of this Center in consultation with the Director; actively seek grants, gifts and other sources of funding; generate and execute projects; participate in the Chesapeake Semester; and represent the Center to internal and external audiences. Teaching of 1 or 2 courses per year is negotiable.
Qualifications:
A proven track record in grant seeking, research, public outreach and teaching, as well as skills in organizational management and administration, are essential. Experience in both academia and in either government and/or the private sector is desirable, as is an entrepreneurial outlook. Interests and experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: estuarine resource management, water quality, agricultural issues, public education and STEM training, remote sensing and associated technologies such as GIS.
Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, anticipated at Administrative Level 10 or 11.
