Description

The Denver Office of Earthjustice is seeking two associate attorneys to join its staff. The start date for the first position is fall of 2005 and the second job will begin in the summer or fall of 2006. The associate attorney position is a two-year position, and successful applicants in the past have typically completed a judicial clerkship or have one or more years of experience in environmental law or general litigation.

Earthjustice was established in 1971 as an independent, non-profit, public interest environmental law firm. Litigation is, and has always been, our primary focus. The Denver office, one of Earthjustice's eight regional offices, represents a diverse array of individuals and citizen groups of all sizes in their efforts to protect natural resources and human health in the Mountain West. Associate attorneys are responsible for helping to develop and pursue strategic litigation, primarily in federal courts.

The applicants hired for these two jobs will work with a team of attorneys representing the interests of diverse clients and working on all aspects of public interest advocacy, including non-litigation strategies and media outreach.

Qualifications includetimely admission to the Colorado bar, a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection, and a sense of humor. Excellent research, writing and oral advocacy skills are essential, as are a solid academic record, interest in being a team player, a strong work ethic and a sense of initiative.

At the moment our docket includes, among other things: litigation to defend the Forest Service's roadless initiative; efforts to stop the damage caused by off-road vehicles in Utah's canyon country; cases to protect wilderness values in proposed wilderness areas; suits to protect Southwestern rivers, forests, and native species from degradation associated with cattle grazing; cases to protect rare species, including a number of suits to force the government to list species as threatened or endangered and to designate critical habitat; and litigation to challenge irresponsible and illegal energy development on both public and private lands.
