Description

Background:

The interdisciplinary Department of Environmental Science and Policy seeks a faculty
member specializing in energy policy with an emphasis on fuel cell technology.

Duties:

The appointee is expected to develop a well-funded, high-quality program of basic and
applied research in energy policy, with a specialization in fuel cell vehicles and
technology.

Possible research topics might include economic analysis, consumer
purchase behavior, use of alternative fuels, greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions,
and evaluation of policy instruments.

The person would hold a faculty appointment at
the tenured or tenure track level in the Department of Environmental Science & Policy.

The candidate will be expected to participate in activities of the Fuel Cell Vehicle Center
in the Institute of Transportation Studies.

Teaching responsibilities include an undergraduate course in energy policy and 1or 2
other undergraduate and graduate courses commensurate with the appointees
interests and departmental needs. The appointee is expected to advise undergraduate
students in environmental policy, as well as graduate students in both the Graduate
Group in Transportation Technology & Policy and the Graduate Group in
Ecology/Environmental Policy.

As a member of the Agricultural Experiment Station, the appointee is expected to
develop a research and outreach program of relevance to energy policy in California.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D., with specialization in a social science, planning, or
engineering discipline, or an interdisciplinary environmental, energy, or public policy
program. The applicant must have strong training in quantitative techniques, as well an
interest in collaborating with environmental scientists and/or engineers.

The candidate will be expected to develop a high-quality
program of basic and applied research, engage in undergraduate and graduate
teaching, and participate in outreach activities.

Initially, this position will be 50%
permanently-budgeted, tenure-track faculty and 50% soft-money, with the latter
salary guaranteed by the Institute of Transportation Studies. Assuming suitable
progress, the permanently budgeted portion will increase to 68% after three years and
to 100% starting in the sixth year.
