Description

The Hawaii Natural Energy Institute is an organized research unit of the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) of the University of Hawai‘i at M?noa (UHM). The Institute performs research, conducts testing and evaluation, and manages public-private partnerships across a broad range of renewable and enabling technologies to reduce the State of Hawai‘i's dependence on fossil fuel.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of a Senior Program Manager, plans, organizes, and manages project-related tasks associated with HNEI renewable energy and smart grid technology projects including managing tasks related to budgeting, designing, procuring, constructing, placement in operation, and closing of projects. 

Work closely with HNEI Director, other staff, and contractors in carrying out electricity grid-related projects.  Contribute to and support research activities associated with these projects.  Interact with a broad array of stakeholders, including project partners, local and federal regulatory agencies, funding agencies, electric utility companies, and decision makers within the University of Hawaii and State government. 

Collaborate with the Director and other HNEI staff to support development of proposals to demonstrate and assess renewable energy and smart grid technologies.  Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Masters degree and, in addition to the MS, 30 credits of graduate study from a college or university of recognized standing in engineering, project management/contracting or related field.  Minimum 3 years of professional experience in engineering and project management of electricity grid-related projects and programs.  Extensive knowledge of energy systems and electric utility operations, technology trends and business practices. 

Demonstrated ability to interpret and present technical information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.  Proficient computer knowledge and skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Ph.D. in a field relevant to the position and 10 years of experience in engineering and project management with specific focus in renewable energy and smart grid technologies.  Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from a nationally recognized organization.  Prior professional experience in a competitive R&D environment relating to the energy sector. 

Compensation: S3 rank; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
